EuroNews Persian Service

Launched in October 2010, the 24- hour Persian language channel EuroNews Persian is the 10th foreign language channel under the European television news network EuroNews. Based in Lyon, France and broadcasted via satellite, cable, and the Internet, the channel receives its funding from the European Union and advertisements.

EuroNews Persian has been a subject of controversy and criticism since its inception at the channel’s launching ceremony. Two staff members from the Iranian Embassy in Brussels attended the ceremony at the European Parliament on October 27th, 2010; however, Chairman and CEO of EuroNews Phillipe Cayla later claimed they must have attended through their own personal contacts as no one from the Iranian Embassy was invited to the ceremony.

The EuroNews Persian website has been filtered by the government of Iran since November of 2010.
